Thanks for these excellent links. Césaire's funeral today is the occasion for an orgy of hypocrisy led by a certain Nicolas Sarkozy. But Césaire's writings on colonialism remain and will be rememberd when Sarkozy and co have been consigned to the dustbin of history. By the way, with a 36% approval rating in today's polls, he is the most unpopular president ever after one year of his mandate. Check out my blog for more on these subjects.

Oh, damn...

I greatly admired this man...

I still remember the first time I read his 'Cahier' and specially his Têmpete, that wonderful anti-colonial re-writing of the Tempest...

And like the greatest of artists, his ability to be a great politician also, a firm believer in the emancipation of humanity from its chains.

We'll remain faithful to his memory. And try to honour his work and memory as it deserves. Which is a lot.
